Landscaping To Better Living
While preparing to extol the charms and vitality of some of the most beautiful gardens of Malaysia, we may well be reminded that one of the "Seven Wonders of the World" happends to be a garden - the "Hanging Gardens of Babylon". Gardens are indeed a wonder - a living art carved out of nature by man in his endless quest for beauty, harmony and order. Gardens evoke soothing emotions such as joy, tranquillity, love and even reverence. There is currently a global recognition of their role especially in a world that is turing to concrete and technology at such an alarming rate. Little wonder then, that the Japanese who are among the world leaders in the industrial and technological race, have always held a reverential regard for gardens which to them symbolise value such as harmony, serenity and balance.
As Malaysia gears itself to face the technological demands and responsibilities of the twenty-first century in its pursuit to successfully evolve as an industrialised nation, it becomes all the more imperative to appreciate the little treasures which we have etched out of mother nature for ourselves and for posterity to cherish and enjoy.
It is in this spirit that we undertook the task of producing this book which we believe will appeal to readers from all walk of life. We hope it achieves its primary aim of impressing upon the readers, the aesthetic value of the many little wonders that surround us - here in Malaysia - in the form of beautiful living gardens. Not only does this book depicts the charms and beauty of our gardens but it also offers practical landscaping tips for you to enjoy turning your gardens, housing estates, workplaces, various parts of your town, parks, etc., into places of beauty and joy. Let us together strive to create an environment that is clean, beautiful and fun to live in. Let us take pride in turning Malaysia into the Paradise of the East.
